Missions in Haiti – Part II

4 Feb

We stayed at Pastor Marcel’s house in St. Marc

St. Marc was originally planned for about 20,000 people. Today it harbors well over 200,000!

Men at Work :) Though I think they put those there to keep all the crazy tap tap drivers from driving into huge potholes!

They have a large tablet of the 10 Commandments in the park

We drove up to the church and school at Charette to visit, deliver gifts, and take updated photos of the children for their sponsors

Missions in Haiti – Part I

4 Feb

At the beginning of the year we went on a 8 day mission trip to Haiti with Hamilton Life Church. We spent time visiting a few of the churches that Pastor Marcel works with, showing God’s love to His people in a real way.

Haiti is such a beautiful country

but the poverty is apparent everywhere you look…

…almost. Of course there are always those who “have” even in a country full of “have nots”

These tent cities are everywhere…even right outside the airport

This is a great billboard with a wonderful message, “Desperate? Jesus is your hope.”

It’s crazy to think that a whole year after the earthquake so many people are still living this way…

Our first stop was the church at Bois Neuf where Marcel is the pastor

We got a chance to see the school there…

and all the work that is ongoing and still needs to be done

More to come!

Happy 1st Birthday, Jacob!

31 Jan

My baby had his first birthday this weekend. I have to give a great big thank you to Nora. She was instrumental in helping me pull together all the last minute details…who else would stay up until 3 am to help make streamers and keep me company while I finished the cake? I have truly been blessed with amazing friends. The weather was perfect…I couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful (although bittersweet) time of celebration with friends and family. My baby is growing up so fast! Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes :)

The Carter Family//Holiday photos

Meet the Carter Family! Dad had originally contacted me for a senior session for his daughter but we ended up doing a family session instead :) They did a great job getting a room all set up with a beautiful tree and a roaring fireplace…what a nice way to ring in the Holiday season!
